This week’s feature Pathway is all about the Planets. Read all about this fantastic unit that includes, audio, video, worksheets and hands-on projects and then find out about this week’s giveaway.
This fun unit introduces your child to the planets in our solar system. Children will be introduced to what the solar system is and the concept that the sun is a part of our solar system. Through a song and by making a model of the solar system, children will learn what planets are in the solar system and the order of the planets. They will also learn about Saturn and discover what the rings are made of. In addition, children will discover that Pluto is a dwarf planet and that there are currently eight planets in our solar aystem. This unit is designed to last one week, depending on how often you teach science.
Doesn’t that sound like a great unit? It’s loaded with great resources. Everything you need to complete this unit can be found in your own home and online, but for one lucky reader, we’re going to make it even better!

I think it’s a toss-up between Saturn’s Brilliant Rings and Solar System Book. I really appreciate that the option is there to print the book on a lighter background to conserve my printer ink. The Weightless Clothespin looked intriguing but it’s been taken off of the Bill Nye website. Do you have another link for it?
My daughter and I will be getting into this either next week or the week after and quite excited!!! So far, just looking through I really like the Solar System Book and my daughter is excited to work on it and she really can’t wait to work on Saturn’s Brilliant Rings. Seeing her excited to start a unit is all that is important to me, along with anything else that keeps her excited! I also enjoyed the What Is The Solar System online book from NASA.
We LOVED the Orbiting Marbles project and it was great fun to see “Bill Nye the Science Guy”!!
I love the Saturn’s brilliant rings section! But it all looks great!
The National Geographic Website looks like it is full of information. Plus the Bill Nye stuff will interest all my girls.
Bill Nye is always a big hit in our house!
Love it!! Can’t wait to go into more depth with this one with my first grade girls. Also love that there is plenty here to keep my 10 year old interested too!
I think my middle one would like the book the best (he’s 4 and has just discovered the joy of making his own books), but the oldest (7) would probably get a real kick out of the mobile.
The Mars Rovers video from NG!
Definitely the Orbiting Marbles with Bill Nye!! This looks so neat! Thank you for the chance to win!!
I think my son will enjoy making the mobile most…
We are studying the universe right now and this lesson would. E awesome! My 3 yr. old is now obsessed about the planets. The model and the orbiting marbles would be a big hit!
I think the Saturn’s rings. How cool.
I like all the Stepping Stones but I think the Planet Pictures is the best. GREAT visuals on that site!
I love all the hands on oppritunities and the bright illistrations help get my visual learner’s attention. It all looks great though!
Saturn’s Brilliant rings or the Solar System model
I’m all for any activity with Bill Nye the Science Guy!
Solar System Model would be a big hit in my home..My little men like to build and this would be perfect for them :0)
The weighless clothespin activity (we LOVE Bill Nye & just watched his Sun & Space Exploration videos this week).
The link isn’t working but if you go to
http://www.billnye.com/for-kids-teachers/home-demos/
& then to “Space Science” & you’ll find it listed with a few other options.
Aside from that, the whole unit looks great! Very timely giveaway as we began space this month & are spending a good long time on it. We’ve done the Moon & have just begun the sun this week. Planning to look at astronomy, each planet, astronaut training & more. This giveaway would be a welcome addition!
Love the mobile. I know my son would love that too. Although, I’m sure it’s all wonderful!
